Bio

Raymond Murdock Bio

I was blessed to begin my moving meditation journey when I was 14 years old in a traditional Hot Yoga studio in Phoenix, Arizona. I quickly noticed the improvement in my basketball game, particularly my quickness, flexibility and breath awareness. I continued practicing throughout high school and into college while playing various sports. In college some of my favorite courses were Pilates and Yoga.

My last year of college was attended in Hawaii where I was introduced to Tai Chi by a group of elders, who practiced daily on a roof top garden at an apartment complex in Honolulu where I lived. This is where my experiences of moving meditations expanded. It was my first experience outside of the context of an official class setting, more of an organic space of expression. At 6:30am I would wake up Monday -Saturday to join the practice, learning only by following along. It was truly a magical experience of healing and awareness that I reflect on to this day, as I continue my practices of Tai Chi and Martial Arts.

After leaving the island and moving back to the mainland I bounced between Arizona and New Mexico. I frequently practiced Tai Chi and worked at a Yoga studio for a short time. Eventually I moved to Albuquerque, NM where I found 8 Step Preying Mantis Kung Fu. This style of Kung Fu is unique as it is a complete system of martial arts. This form has extensive knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Tai Chi, which incorporates 64 modalities of healing. Qi gong, Acupuncture, and cupping are some commonly know modalities.

I am certified in Medical Qigong Therapy and trained in the basics of Traditional Chinese Medicine 5 element theory. Throughout this certification process I learned a deeper sense of internal body awareness which increased my knowledge of yoga as well. The history of Kung Fu and Qigong was partially developed by Yogis in the Tibetan mountains. Some Qi Gong Movements are deeply routed in yoga, and vise versa. Some argue it all part of the same one.

Over the last few years with the increase of social unrest with pandemics, along with various other factors I have found a deep sense of peace in my moving meditation and martial arts experiences. Throughout my life I was blessed to be able to join hundreds of classes to continue my journey in the most peaceful and respectful way possible. I am honored to be able to share my experience to further your journey.
